As I walked the streets of London today I talked to my guide dog, Drew to keep up her interest in her work (we are taught, by the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association to do this). I said “good girl” and, when I wished her to move forward I said “forward”. All well and good you may think and so it was accept for one minor detail … my guide dog was in the vets and I was, in fact using my cane to find my way round London. I get so used to working with Drew that it becomes second nature to talk to her irrespective of whether or not she is, in fact present! So if, on your travels round London you happen upon a blind guy chatting away to his cane the chances are its me!
