THE CARDINAL PUB TO CHANGE IT’S NAME TO THE WINDSOR CASTLE

I was surprised and a little sad to read, in today’s Daily Mail that the Cardinal, a pub situated just behind Westminster Cathedral is due to change it’s name to The Windsor Castle. I have happy memories of drinking in the Cardinal with friends and colleagues in the days when it’s walls where decorated with the pictures of prelates. Coincidentally I was in the vicinity of the Cathedral on Tuesday, however I resisted the temptation to pop into the Cardinal for a swift pint and perhaps a bite to eat.

I do hope the Cardinal retains it’s old name and identity.

(Update: I’ve now located and signed the petition to save the Cardinal which can be found here http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/cardinal/).

Even if you had given into temptation it’s been closed for refurbishment for the last 10months.. so I’m not sure how long ago you visited but it’s been closed for a complete facelift for ages! (since Sept 2010)

The change is part of the controversy of the name change.. initially a priest from the Westminster Cathedral caused all sorts of issues in complaining on a daily basis about the pub.. to be honest I’m not surprised at all that the pub wants to change the name after all the trouble the pub caused.

The problem is that there are two different priests and they both have opposing views.. one likes the pub immensely and is opposing the name change and the other complains and tried to get the license revoked by the counsel repeatedly.

the trouble the pub caused. = the trouble he caused the pub.
