New Zealand researchers have developed technology which allows people with disabilities to control home appliances, such as lights and washing machines using thought alone. The technology is not wholly accurate at present as the skull can distort the messages being passed between the brain and the equipment which is situated outside the skull. However, in the future it may be possible to implant chips into the brain thereby allowing the system to operate more effectively. Transhumanists will see this development as further evidence of their contention that man can and should merge with his technology in order to extend the capacities of humankind.
