GOVERNMENT CONSULTATION ON THE EQUALITIES ACT

The government has launched a consultation regarding whether the Equalities Act should be retained, amended or scrapped. The Act is a consolidation of various equalities legislation including the Race Relations Acts and the Disability Discrimination Act and is there to prevent discrimination against minorities, for example ethnic groups and people with disabilities.

The Equalities Act (although by no means perfect) does offer a means of redress to those who have to contend with discrimination and to repeal it risks leaving the door wide open to acts of discrimination. I’d urge you to go to the consultation’s website and to express your support for the continuation of the Equalities Act. The link is here http://www.redtapechallenge.cabinetoffice.gov.uk/equalities/
