LIVING ONLINE IS CHANGING OUR BRAINS

Yesterday’s issue of the kurzweilai.net newsletter links to an interesting article, in New Scientist in which Susan Greenfield expresses the view that exposure to technology is changing our brains (and, in particular the brains of young children). Greenfield draws attention to an increase in violence by children who spend excessive amounts of time using the internet. Unlike television which can be watched with other family members the use of computers is, usually a solitary activity. Greenfield says that we need to ensure that children are exposed to a 3d world rather than to a 2d one. For anyone who has children or who is concerned about the present and future generations I’d recommend reading Greenfield’s interview which can be found here http://www.newscientist.com/article/mg21128236.400-susan-greenfield-living-online-is-changing-our-brains.html
