Louis Macneice Bagpipe Music

Yesterday while browsing WordPress I came across an old favourite of mine, Louis Macneice’s poem, Bagpipe Music. To the best of my recollection I first came across this poem while looking through the New Oxford Book of English Verse. Then again it may have been while listening to Poetry Please, on Radio 4. The seemingly jaunty rhythm of the poem and the commic phraseology is belied by the social criticism contained in Bagpipe Music.
