Today’s Daily Telegraph has an article about Asda (one of the UK’s leading supermarket’s) plans to introduce virtual assistants. Apparently the holographic assistants proved popular in Asda’s Milton Keynes store in Buckinghamshire where they greeted shoppers and explained about the store’s price guarantee. The developer of the software envisages a virtual assistant who could advise shoppers on which foods to purchase to go with a specific wine. All this is well and good but I am still waiting for a virtual assistant who will do my shopping, pack it and carry it home for me while I enjoy a nice cup of coffee in Asda’s restaurant, now that is what I call real progress!
