Down Among the Brixton Gangs

Yesterday’s Daily Mail (23 June) carries an article entitled “A Middle Class Mother Among the Hoodies” in which Harriet Sergeant describes her attempts to understand and reform one particular South London (Brixton-based gang. Sergeant portrays young men with very little education and extremely limited horizons. The gang fear to stray outside the few streets which “belong” to them due to fear of attack by rival gangs. Sergeant sees beautiful Victorian houses in Brixton while these youngsters see only violence.
The article is part of a series and I wholeheartedly recommend it to you. For the piece please visit http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2163396/A-middle-class-mother-hoodies.html
